STAINLESS STEEL (INOX)

acciaio inoxThe stainless steel indicates high-alloy steels containing chromium in quantities between 11 and 30%. Other binders are also added to increase corrosion resistance as nickel, molybdenum, copper, titanium and niobium.

Stainless steel resists corrosion in both wet or dry and has many properties that make it a material of high versatility.

It was discovered in 1913 when English Harry Brearly experiments on steels for use on the barrels of firearms.

The steels are divided into three main groups: martensitic (chromium, relatively high carbon and other elements in small amounts), ferritic (only chrome), austenitic (chromium and nickel, with 2.3% molybdenum). The stainless steels most commonly used abbreviations have the following business (in ASTM rating is 3XX series):

Cr (%) Ni (%) ASTM UNI

18 10 321, 347, 348 X8CNT1810, X8CNNb1811
