ALUMINIUM ALLOYS

leghe alluminioPure aluminium has poor mechanical quality, but with the addition of alloying elements such as copperzincmanganesesilicon or magnesium alloys are obtained with different mechanical properties and excellent processability.

Aluminium alloys are divided into wrought alloys and foundry alloys.

ALUMINIUM ALLOYS FOR PROCESSING PLASTIC

Alloys are rolling , extrusion , forging, stamping, drawing, etc.. Each league and 'identified by a four-digit number, where the first digit indicates the items most in the league.

  • 1000 or 1xxx series: identifies the pure aluminium with a minimum of 99% content by weight and possible treatments for hardening.
  • 2000 series or 2xxx alloys with copper, also known as Avional or Duralumin. May be subjected to heat treatment of precipitation hardening reaching hardness comparable to steel. Leagues were among the most common in aerospace applications and are now being replaced by the 7000 series.
  • 3000 series or 3xxx alloys manganese, can be machined to work hardening.
  • 4000 or 4xxx series alloys of silicon, also known as silumin.
  • 5000 or 5xxx series: magnesium alloys, also known as Peraluman. You get a good hardness with cold forming processes.
  • 6000 or 6xxx series alloys with magnesium and silicon, also called Anticorodal. They have an excellent workability 'with tools and machines may be subjected to heat treatment of precipitation hardening, but can not get the features that can reach 2000 and 7000 alloys.
  • 7000 or 7xxx series alloys with zinc, also known as Alu. They are able to achieve the best mechanical properties of all aluminium alloys.
  • 8000 or 8xxx series: mixed leagues, especially with lithium.

ALUMINIUM FOUNDRY ALLOYS

Are alloys for casting in sand castings, shell castings.

  • 100.0 1xx.x or series: aluminium alloys with 99.0% minimum.
  • 200.0 or 2xxx series alloys aluminium - copper.
  • 300.0 3xx.x or series: aluminium alloys - manganese.
  • 400.0 4xx.x or series: alloy aluminium - silicon.
  • 500.0 5xx.x or series: aluminium alloys - Magnesium.
  • 600.0 6xx.x or series: alloy aluminium - magnesium - silicon.
  • 700.0 7xx.x or series: aluminium alloys - zinc.
  • 800.0 8xx.x or series: aluminium alloys - iron - silicon.
