Although the ferro-chrome occupies, in terms of tons, the less important position is the more interesting for the ferroalloy business to the high costs of conversion. Moreover, among the three major ferroalloys, is the only one to be produced using scrap metal and therefore its price is significantly influenced by the availability of the same.
It is the ferro-alloy most used and also the most versatile, being used for correction for refining. Unfortunately, these qualities also make it the least interesting, in economic terms, both for producers and traders.
The ferro-molybdenum is used to harden steel (small percentage). It is also called "technical grade" to distinguish it from pure molybdenum.
The ferro-silicon is present in amounts less than ferro-manganese-chromium and iron, but it is the second in tons produced between these three major ferroalloys. It is used for correction and for refining.
