Copper grade A is quoted on London Metal Exchange (LME) and its contract (future) specifies a minimum 99.90% purity, according to BS EN 1978:1998 (Cu-CATH-1). Copper's future is quoted also on COMEX (a NYMEX division).
The scrap copper are available in various types, identified by trade names (different from country to country) or international standards classifications (for example ISRI). Unlike other scrap metal, scrap copper have the same chemical and physical characteristics of the primary metal.
The copper wire is used mainly in electric motors, transformers and toroidal windings. The minimum purity of 99.97% copper, in accordance with ASTM B49/92.
